When people are starting to believe that Boracay is already overdeveloped, along comes Hotel 101 Resort-Boracay, a 1,001-room property to be built by Double Dragon Properties Corp.
The hotel is set to become, not just the largest hotel in the Visayas in terms of room count, but in the whole country, all on a two-hectare property on the beachfront cove. Despite its humongous structure, the project is bannered as supportive of environmentally friendly operations and sustainable tourism.
Hotel 101 Resort-Boracay is a joint project of Hotel of Asia Inc., a subsidiary of DoubleDragon Properties Corp. a property company headed by Mang Inasal founder and Double Dragon Chairman Injap Sia II and Jolibee founder and DoubleDragon Co-Chairman Tony Tan Caktiong, and Newcoast South Beach Inc. Chairman Enrique Gonzalez.
The resort will be located within the 150-hectare tourism estate, Boracay Newcoast, of Global Estate Resorts, a subsidiary of Megaworld.
Boracay Newcoast is envisioned to become the new side of Boracay as it hosts its own commercial, retail, and boutique hotel districts, residential condominiums, residential villages, hotels and resorts, surrounded by its own golf course. The development is also a model of sustainability in the island as it incorporates green initiatives such as the use of electric jeepneys, solar-powered streetlamps, flood-free drainage systems, implementation of its own waste segregation program, and its own Sewage Treatment Plan (STP) that converts used water for irrigation and fire reserve.
On the other hand, Hotel 101 Resort-Boracay will have specific areas powered by solar panels and will be equipped with a rainwater harvesting system and is expected to be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) certified development. This new green eco-friendly project will be the fourth development under Hotel 101 brand after similar groundbreaking undertakings in Manila, Fort Taguig and Davao City. Hotel 101 aims to have a total of 5,000 hotel rooms in its portfolio by 2020.
