MANILA — Jetstar launches first direct flight from Perth to Manila, expanding West Australian operations

Jetstar’s inaugural direct flight from Perth to Manila marks a significant expansion of the low-cost carrier’s operations in Western Australia (WA). The airline will operate the new route three times a week using its next-generation Airbus A321LR aircraft, offering more than 72,000 seats annually.

Jetstar CEO Stephanie Tully said the inaugural Perth-Manila service opens a new chapter for the airline in WA. “This is Jetstar’s fifth route from Perth to Asia and part of our long-term plan to grow operations in the west, allowing customers to take off more for less,” she said.

“This is the first time Jetstar has flown between Perth and the Philippines. Manila will be a popular destination for West Australian holidaymakers, with its vibrant food scene, rich cultural heritage, and value shopping,” Tully added.

DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco welcomed the new route, noting its potential to strengthen ties with Western Australia while boosting tourism, business, and cultural exchanges. “This flight represents more than just travel; it opens opportunities for tourism and business, connecting the Philippines to the world,” she said.

Jetstar’s inaugural flight on November 28 carried 169 passengers on a six-hour, 35-minute journey, celebrated with Filipino performances at NAIA Terminal 3. The Perth-Manila route will operate three times weekly: flight JQ81 on Thursdays (ETD 21:10 / ETA 04:15), Tuesdays, and Sundays (ETD 22:55 / ETA 05:15). Return flights on JQ80 are scheduled for Fridays (ETD 05:35 / ETA 13:00), Mondays, and Wednesdays (ETD 06:55 / ETA 14:00).

In addition, Cebu will welcome a new seasonal route from Brisbane, running three times weekly from December 3, 2025, to May 16, 2026. The connection is expected to attract more Australian tourists to the Queen City of the South, known for its world-class beaches, vibrant cities, and rich cultural heritage.

Jetstar will also be utilizing A321LR aircraft, part of the airline’s quieter and more fuel-efficient fleet.

The Brisbane-Cebu marks 7th international route operated by Brisbane Airport. It will be the 34th direct international connection by the airport, continuing the commitment to expand travel opportunities and bringing the world closer to Queensland.

The airline will operate the Brisbane-Cebu route three times weekly—Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Flight JQ101 departs Brisbane at 12:30 arriving in Cebu at 17:15 , while JQ100 leaves Cebu at 20:15, arriving Brisbane at 5:05.

Australia is the Philippines’ fifth-largest source of inbound tourists, with 271,207 arrivals recorded as of March 2025. Repeat visitors account for 53%, while 66% travel primarily for leisure and entertainment.

The DOT continues to strengthen air connectivity under the National Tourism Development Plan, ensuring seamless travel and expanding both primary and secondary gateways. DOT Director Azucena C. Pallugna and other stakeholders welcomed passengers at NAIA Terminal 3 during the inaugural flight.
