The Philippines has recently achieved a remarkable milestone in its tourism industry. As of July 19, 2023, the Department of Tourism (DOT) reported that the country has surpassed the 3 million international visitor arrivals mark.

The latest data from the DOT records a total of 3,000,079 international visitors from January 1 to July 19, 2023. During the same period, inbound tourism receipts climbed to an impressive P212.46 billion. This figure is an astounding 502.02 percent higher than the tourism revenue generated during the corresponding period last year, which amounted to P35.3 billion.

“We are glad to report that in roughly seven months, we have already achieved the 3 million international visitor arrivals mark, reflecting continued robust recovery and the gains of the Marcos Administration towards the resurgence of Philippine tourism,” Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said.

This achievement not only highlights the Philippines as a travel destination but also emphasizes the significant contributions of tourism to employment and livelihood opportunities for millions of Filipinos.

Secretary Frasco further added, “Tourism provides employment and livelihood to millions of Filipinos. We are grateful for the renewed interest worldwide in the Philippines, which offers a multitude of reasons to love travel across our islands. We thank as well our fellow Filipinos who continue to travel domestically, supporting our local communities and families who are all part of the tourism value chain.” The support from both international and domestic travelers has played a crucial role in rejuvenating the tourism sector and fostering economic growth.

Examining the source markets for international arrivals, South Korea emerges as the leading contributor, delivering almost a quarter of the total number of visitors to the Philippines. South Korea’s 741,658 visitors account for 24.72 percent of the overall arrivals. Following closely in the second spot is the United States of America with 550,569 visitors, making up 18.35 percent. Australia, Japan, and Canada complete the top five source markets, with 146,062,  143,227, and 132,018 visitors, respectively.

Additionally, China accounted for 129,077 visitors, Taiwan contributed 104,211, the United Kingdom provided 85,847, Singapore contributed 81,656, and Malaysia brought in 54,411 visitors.

The impressive growth in international visitor arrivals and tourism receipts showcases the positive trajectory of the Philippine tourism industry.

The Department of Tourism had previously set a target of achieving 4.8 million foreign visitors by the end of 2023.
